Terms of Use

By using SasaRide, you agree to these Terms & Conditions, which govern the rights and responsibilities of Passengers, Drivers, and the Platform.

SasaRide is regulated under the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA) and complies with Google Play Store and Apple App Store requirements for mobile applications.

1.1 Introduction

SasaRide is a digital ride-hailing and delivery platform in Tanzania. By registering and using the app, you enter into a binding agreement with SasaRide to follow these Terms.

1.2 Definitions (adapted from Bolt)

  • “Platform” – the SasaRide app and technology that connects Drivers and Passengers.

  • “Passenger” – a person requesting a ride or delivery via the SasaRide app.

  • “Driver/Partner” – a person providing rides or deliveries via the SasaRide app.

  • “Fare” – the amount paid by the Passenger for the service.

  • “Commission” – the percentage deducted by SasaRide for using the platform.

  • “In-App Payments” – payments made via mobile money, cards, or other electronic methods inside the app.

  • “Agreement” – these Terms & Conditions, together with policies and updates communicated through the app.

1.3 Compliance

  • All operations must follow the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA) rules: licensing, fares, vehicle standards, and safety.

  • Fares, commission (max 25%), and booking fee (max 3%) follow LATRA guidelines.

  • Both passengers and drivers must follow Tanzanian laws (traffic, tax, safety, and financial compliance).

2.1 Registration & Use

  • Passengers must provide valid details when registering.

  • Accounts are personal and cannot be shared or transferred.

2.2 Booking & Payments

  • All trips must be booked through the app.

  • Fare is calculated based on LATRA rules: base fare, distance, and time.

  • Payment can be made by cash or in-app methods.

2.3 Conduct & Responsibilities

  • Passengers must:

    • Respect drivers and vehicles.

    • Not cancel repeatedly without cause (cancellation fees may apply).

    • Not damage vehicles. Any damage may attract repair charges.

2.4 Refunds & Disputes

  • Refunds are issued only for failed trips or app errors.

  • Disputes first go through SasaRide support; unresolved issues may go to LATRA.

3.1 Eligibility (improved from Bolt)

  • Must hold a valid PSV license.

  • Vehicle must meet LATRA requirements (insurance, inspection, safety equipment).

  • Drivers must pass identity checks (NIDA, police clearance if required).

3.2 Obligations

  • Provide services professionally:

    • Follow the safest/most cost-effective route unless instructed otherwise.

    • Do not overcharge outside app fares.

    • Do not carry unauthorized passengers.

    • Obey traffic laws (e.g., no phone handling while driving).

  • Drivers bear their own operating costs (fuel, maintenance, insurance, mobile data).

3.3 Earnings & Payments

  • Drivers earn fares as calculated in the app.

  • SasaRide deducts its commission and booking fee before payout.

  • Payouts are made weekly via mobile money or bank accounts.

3.4 In-App Payments (aligned with Bolt)

  • Drivers must accept in-app payments (mobile money, cards).

  • Refusal to accept in-app payments may lead to penalties or suspension.

  • Drivers can view weekly payment reports in the app.

3.5 Ratings & Quality Control

  • Passengers can rate drivers; ratings affect continued access to the platform.

  • Consistently low ratings or misconduct may lead to suspension or permanent deactivation.

3.6 Taxes

  • Drivers are responsible for their own tax obligations (income tax, NSSF/PPF, etc.).

  • SasaRide may share driver activity data with the Tanzania Revenue Authority if required by law.

4.1 Data Collected

  • Personal data (name, phone, ID, vehicle info).

  • Location data (GPS trip tracking).

  • Payment and transaction data.

  • Ratings, complaints, and support interactions.

4.2 Use of Data

  • To connect drivers and passengers.

  • For safety monitoring, fraud prevention, and LATRA reporting.

  • To process payments and generate invoices.

  • To improve the platform experience.

4.3 Sharing of Data

  • LATRA (for compliance).

  • Payment processors (mobile money, cards).

  • Law enforcement (upon valid request).

  • Service providers (hosting, support, analytics).

4.4 User Rights (aligned with App Store/Play Store rules)

  • Right to access and correct personal information.

  • Right to request account deletion and data erasure.

  • Right to opt-out of marketing communications.

5.1 Relationship

  • Drivers are independent contractors, not employees.

  • No employment or agency relationship exists between Drivers and SasaRide.

5.2 Liability

  • SasaRide is not responsible for accidents, delays, or passenger/driver misconduct.

  • Liability for accidents or damage rests with the driver.

  • Platform liability is limited to direct damages (capped as allowed by Tanzanian law).

5.3 Termination

  • Users may terminate their account at any time.

  • SasaRide may suspend or terminate accounts for policy breaches, fraud, or repeated misconduct.

5.4 Governing Law

  • These Terms are governed by the laws of Tanzania.

  • Disputes may be resolved through SasaRide support, LATRA, or Tanzanian courts.
